Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress who works in the fields of film, television and theatre. She's best known as Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer on the Showtime program Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name upon her marriage. She was born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. When she was an infant, she showed an aptitude for acting. She won the Best Actress Award at the Maryland High School Contest. She attended boarding schools at the age between 7 and 9 years old in London. After that her family moved back to Toronto (Canada) in Canada, where she were raised for her entire life. Contractor was a wonderful pupil in Toronto and educated to become the classical ballet dancer. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts - a specialized arts high school where she was able to study not only dance, but also theatre. Contractor was just 16 when she realized that acting would be her career. Dance was her passion for a decade. After graduating high school, Contractor accepted a scholarship at the University of Toronto to pursue the dual field of psychology and sociology. Additionally, she earned an advanced degree in theatre. Contractor was cast in her first show following her first year at university. The production she appeared in were praised by Canadian theater critics. She was given the chance to enroll in the Stratford Conservatory, which is a private institution that accepts just eight men as well as four female students to take a course in the art of classical theater. Contractor was ecstatically accepted. Contractor was offered a slot for the following season. She was also offered the part as Hermia.
